Hope and Renewal: How to Breathe New Life into Your Poetry with Yun Wei

10:00-12:30 (2hr30min): Poetry Workshop

Have you been languishing in your writing life? Do you have an old poem that you want to dust off and make new? Are you struggling to put an experience into words that surprises and sharpens the senses? Join our study of Lyn Hejinian’s techniques for unpredictability, rearrangement and how to create openness in the text, as well as poets of hope like Ada Limon and e.e. cummings. From creating razor-sharp metaphors to injecting surprise and hope in your work, this workshop will include brief lectures and group exercises. Poets, prose writers and anyone looking  to experiment with language and to find new ways to create are most welcome.

13:30-16:00 (2hr30min): Poetry Critiquing

We will apply the techniques of wonder and openness discussed in the morning to critique each other's work. Please bring one poem, whether old or new, that you're looking to refresh.

Maximum readers: 6, first come first served.

Readers must attend the morning lecture and should bring at least 20 printed copies of their poem. Non-readers are welcome to join the critiquing.

Costs:

morning workshop: 40 CHF members / 50 CHF non-members

afternoon critiquing: 20 CHF members / 30 CHF non-members

all-day attendance: 50 CHF members / 70 CHF non-members

You can pay online via credit card or with cash on the day.

Please note that the location is the Salle Zazi Sadou in the Maison des Associations, Rue des Savoises 15, 1205, Geneva (near Pleinpalais).
